What counts as a vintage card?

There’s no universal cutoff, but the hobby generally considers anything printed before 1980 as vintage, with some extending the line to 1990. Pre-war cards (before 1945) are the earliest and rarest tier. HoodCar’s vintage category focuses on pre-1990 cards across all sports.

Are low-grade vintage cards still valuable?

Yes — and that’s what makes vintage different from modern. A PSA 3 or 4 of a key vintage card can still command four or five figures, because high-grade copies may not exist. The market prices what’s available, not what’s theoretically perfect.

PSA or SGC for vintage cards?

Both are widely respected. PSA has the largest market share and commands the highest resale premiums overall. SGC has earned strong credibility specifically in the vintage community and is known for fast turnaround. Many vintage specialists use both. See the grading prices comparison.

What’s the most valuable vintage card?

The T206 Honus Wagner is the most famous card in the hobby, with top examples selling above $7 million. The 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 10 is valued in the tens of millions. Pre-war tobacco cards and early Topps issues dominate the all-time list.

How often does the vintage floor update?

Every 6 hours. HoodCar’s scanner pulls live graded vintage listings from eBay on that cycle.
